Alyson Tyson is currently a 3rd grade teacher in the New Haven Public Schools district in New Haven, Connecticut. She holds a B.B.A in Marketing and Management as well as an M.A.T in Early Childhood and Elementary Education, both from the University of Portland. Prior to teaching, Alyson worked for the Active Network, in San Diego, California, as a Corporate Fundraising Events Consultant and an Account Executive specializing in web based management systems that support the tennis industry. She also served on the Portland Marathon Committee as the Course Entertainment Coordinator for the marathon. Alyson became inspired to teach after her role in founding and coaching the Monarch School Running Program. The program serves San Diego’s youth homeless population and promotes health, fitness, safety and confidence. Since she has been teaching, her classes have been district science fair winners every year and she has also been recognized for her excellence in developing fresh and salt water ecology projects. In 2012, Alyson received the “My Favorite Teacher Award,” sponsored by Barnes and Noble. She also is a representative for the Yale New Haven Teacher’s Institute, where she designs curriculum.
